I have been taking my pets to Northwood for several years now. I live in Schertz and decided to take my animals to a vet that was closer to home. However, I returned to Northwood because the care and the prices just did not compare. I rather make the drive to have better care at reasonable prices. Recently my dog had to be hospitalized for over a week due to Kidney failure and after reading these reviews I was worried that the bill was going to be astronomical but I was pleasantly surprised that it was not as much as I thought it would be. My poor dog was very sick and I was very worried about her. I called every day and the staff, Sandy and Renee were very kind and patient with me as they answered all my questions and kept me informed on how my dog was doing. The staff at Northwoods' Animal Hospital have always been kind and caring. I trust that my pet is in good hands and well taken care of. I will continue to take my pets to Northwood.

I took my dog to Northwood for shots and a general checkup. The staff and doctor were very nice. A great experience over all. BUT the true test came a few months later after I had moved out of state and had lost my dog's shot records. I called and they happily offered to fax them to me. I gave the the number. The wrong number. The next day I called back and they very nicely and politely told me they had tried but the fax had failed. I then had to call back later with a good working number. And they, again, politely refaxed the information. It is how they treat you when they know they aren't going to make another dollar of you that is a true test of quality.

I recently took my new dog to Northwood where I had been going since 1989, to be treated for a throat infection. It took four antibiotic injections and some pills I took home with me. Total bill was $510 which included $175 for a "canine profile" and a few a la carte charges. The reason for the big change from what used to be a reasonable vet is that Northwood is now part of Vitalpet so its all about profit. Some of the revews about the ol' country vet are outdated I'm afraid. Sad.

I am writing simply because the existing reviews of Northwood Animal Hospital are very outdated and a person interested in using this veterinary clinic should know that it is now part of a consortium of (at this point in time) about a dozen veterinary clinics throughout Texas called "VitalPet" (if you Google VitalPet you can obtain a full listing of participating clinics). I have taken several different pets to Northwood Animal Hospital for approximately 5-6 years. Sometime within the past year the changeover to VitalPet occurred; i.e., payments, etc. are all now made to "VitalPet." I have historically been satisfied with the care and services provided; the staff, in particular, has historically been very good. But do know that changes are taking/have taken place in the clinic, and you may encounter new people, and vets OTHER than Dr. Wood. The existing reviews, being so outdated, simply do not indicate these changes, so again, don't be surprised by new office staff, or that you don't have Dr. Wood as the actual attending vet for your pet, and that your payments are being made to "VitalPet," and not Dr. Wood or the Northwood Animal Hospital.
