I have been taking my dog to Banfield for the last 7 of my dogs 13 years. They have always been helpful with vaccinations accurate treatments. Recently, I had to put my elderly dog down. I had the best ever experience with the staff. First of all they did not have an appointment available when I called, but they took me at the time I requested. They did not try to talk me out of my decision even though my dog could still walk on his own. They gave him a thick blanket to lay on the cold floor. They answered my questions, put him to sleep in under a minute, then injected the medication to stop his heart. It was fast and painless. The staff was apologetic, caring and professional. They even offered for me to check out from the exam room, prior to euthanizing my dog. This was my first experience to euthanize an animal. I've heard stories with bad experiences so I was a little scared but everything went smoothly.

A copule of years ago, as a proud new owner of my first rescue dog, I took Marie to Banfield assuming they were professionals who would treat me well. After all, they're in a major national chain pet store. That has to buy them some credibility, right? Turns out I was wrong on all counts. Not only did the vet grossly overcharge me for the checkup tests and "special ear cleaning formula" for $45, they also misdiagnosed my sweet Great Pyrénées Marie with heartworms. They told me there was nothing I could do until the condition worsened, at which point we could give her medication. I spoke with the Animal Trusteed of Austin that said this is not true and there are (although difficult) means of obtaining heartworm medicine. Fast-forward ~2 years. I take Marie to a proper vet in town who redid the tests and found she didn't have heartworms. I had a very poor experience at this store. Even if it was an honest mistake, the "Sell Sell Sell!" mentality of lack of knowledge around treatment options make this place a NO-GO. Austin is filled with vets that care about you and your pup, so why go to the one that doesn't.

I feel like these people have no clue what they are doing. $140 to clean an abscess and give an antibiotic. Included pain medication that my cat didn't need but was told to give it anyway. Some of it wasn't even the complete dose. My daughters dog is going to have to be put down because either they have made her so sick she is emaciated or they missed on the diagnosis being cancer and instead of trying to make her last days pleasant its been filled with vomiting and diarrhea die to harsh medications. All this after about $300 in tests, special dog food she wont eat, meds and a wellness plan that my daughter will still have to pay $40 monthly on until next summer. They don't explain that part when they encourage you to sign up for their plans. Please watch out people. This place is only good for yearly shots. Not sick care!

Over priced. By how much you say? an average of 3x what u would pay going to another clinic. Any clinic. An example of something your dog will need would be a "heartguard" multi tablet. They don't carry it. they carry a more expensive alternative that is sold as 2 separate parts. There was atleast 6 hidden cost factored into my final bill and most people will tell you to steer clear of this place. I was also given 3 medications for a problem that the doctor could not identify and instead of stating that, I was charged for all 3 witch made my puppy sicker. Not sure about what the guy below saying Dr. Dunavan was top notch, he made my puppy sicker only after charging me for 3 medications that i didn't need in the first place. labeling this place a scam. STAY AWAY.

I bring my pup to this Banfield pet hospital and they are always really great to her. The staff is always friendly and professional. They do staff a lot of veterinarian students as assistants, but they seem to do a good job at picking only the cream of the crop, as while they sometimes might not know all the ropes there, they do really take good care of my dog and I'm comfortable trusting them with her.
