I am very upset with the way things went at my visit. I had an appointment for my dog's routine shots and asked if I could also get his nails grinded. The receptionist told me it would cost $20. When it was time for him to go into the back room I could hear someone yelling at him to stop - which for one is not going to calm him down. He comes back into the room and I could immediately tell they were not grounded. They cut his nails without asking me! He also "expressed his anals" as one of the techs called it because he was scared. One of his nails was also bleeding and I had brought that to the Vet's attention. After I told the Vet I wanted his nails to be ground instead of cut, they brought in the dremel to fix his nails. After checking out I looked at the invoice and noticed that I was not charged $20 but I was charged $33!! It is not okay to be charged an amount that was not discussed, nor was it okay to have his nails CUT when I specifically asked for it to be GROUND!! I called after I had left and she told me that the reason why I was charged more was because it took 3 people to cut his nails. That sounds completely ridiculous! I normally go to petsmart to have his nails ground and it does not take 3 people to hold him, and they have never made any of his nails bleed! I expected more from AHAH to grind his nails especially when I was supposed to be paying $20 versus the $12 at petsmart! I told the receptionist it would have been nice to be notified that it was going to cost me more than what she had previously told me. I have been coming here since he was a puppy and I've always had great service until today. The vet tech who was assisting (Kelly) was not at all what I would expect from AVAH - she was not friendly to me or Porkchop. I want to be reimbursed for his nail cut/grinding. I called the following day to follow up because they did not reply to me, and all the office manager did was argue with me. She was no help at all! Never going there again!

I hadn't been too happy with them because they always tend to push tests and medicines I think are over the top and unnecessary (or at least they should do one test at a time and rule things out before doing them all at once and costing me hundreds of dollars.) Some of the costs there are sometime more than 3x what my insurance allows for the line item. The final straw for me was today when I called to ask if they could fax my dog's vaccine records to another vet (where I wanted to take my dog for day care). The staff told me it is now policy to get consent from owners. I then spoke to a manager (Brooke Holderman) to ask why they now have this policy, and she was very curt and said "We need a signed form." I told her that wasn't a reason. She wouldn't give me a reason behind the policy and just rudely told me it comes from "the higher-ups". I am going to find another vet. There seems to be a few in the area that are better rated.

I won't go back to this vet because they tried to push expensive blood tests on me several times that were not needed. Long wait time in waiting room. Vet was negative about my pets weight and outdoor time.

We have two greyhounds and a mixed dog. The vet there didn't know anything about greyhounds. My first indication was when she said that the dog was "so thin". I then took my mixed dog there when he had problems with loss stools and weight loss. They recommended a bunch of tests totaling 4,000.00. The vet here did give my dog medicine in the mean time which helped. I took him to another vet for a second opinion, he suggested changing his food. Which I did and it solved the problem. Don't go here they are only after money.

I agree with all the reviews on this site. We had two dogs until yesterday. One had skin lesions that did not seem to get any better. The female doctor there did not bother to run any other tests on our one dog with the issues for three months and just kept doing laser treatments and put her on all kinds of creams and meds. Only after Dr. Velling saw her three months later did he state that these were not skin lesions and did a biopsy on her which came out positive for cancer. The female doctor simply called us one Sat morning and stated that the biopsy was positive for cancer, however she wasn't the doctor that had spent much time with our dog so she can't tell if there is any treatment or not, we'll have to wait until Monday for that...have a good day! We tried all the treatments we could for her and the female doc pretty much told us you have two options: euthanesia or hospitalization. Only after I called back several times and asked over and over again if there was anything else we can do such as pain management or hospice care did she finally recommend Wholistic Paws which is owned by Dr. Erwin. Having her provide holistic care for our dog during her last days was the best decision of our lives, however why did we have to ask for that without automatically being an option?? We lost our dog on Tues and will always love and cherish her. However, as others have mentioned other than Dr. Velling, I would not recommend any other docs in this practice. The front staff is great and helpful as others have said.
