I have been going to the Lacey Animal Clinic for over 20 years. I have had two chronically ill cats; I cannot express how grateful I am for the care they received here. I have never been rushed in an appointment, every question I have had has been answered in great detail. It is obvious how much the doctors and staff love animals when we have been there. The staff's kindness to us when we have had to have our beloved cats euthanized when their conditions have become terminal made heartbreaking moments easier on us. i would (and have) recommend this veterinary clinic to everyone.
I don't do this often and it takes a lot to really make me mad enough to take time out of my day and rant, but I would have to say putting my dogs health in danger ranks pretty high up there for ways to piss me off. 2 weeks ago I brought my then 8 week old Shih Tzu puppy to the Lacey Animal Clinic. The breeder (a family friend) was paying for it for his first round of shots which is the reason I ended up there and not at my normal vet whom I love. At first appearance the vet office is disgusting, both in the lobby and especially in the rooms themselves. Coming from Hawks Prairie Vet Hospital where it is clean enough to eat off the floors at any given time, this was repulsive. But let's get back to the big picture here, so my puppy was coming in for his first visit and round of shots and vaccines the usual parvo and deworming. With this being my third shih tzu puppy I wasn't too worried about the vet being able to handle that.. This was however the first of my puppies that had severe breathing problems some reverse sneezing as well as completely choking himself on his own mucus and temporarily not being able to breathe. Which is just as scary as it sounds and 10 times worse when it is happening to your cute, tiny little puppy. After letting the vet know of my concerns she prescribed him a drug amoxicillan 2 times daily with a little bit of food. Seeing how I believed I was seeing a trust worthy professional I had no reason to question her diagnoses so I brought him home and that evening began with the treatment. It only took a couple days before the diarrhea started. It wasn't bad at first, just softer stools than normal and I know that can be normal in puppies so I didn't worry about it too much. Then yesterday about 8 days later he was releasing anything and everything out of his body from both ends. I immediately called my regular vet whom I love and they made an appointment for him right away. Of course they did the Parvo testing and thankfully the results were negative and as we were waiting for his records from the previous vet to get faxed over I told them how he had been put on amoxicillan. The look on the vets face was enough to tell me they had found the problem. It turns out that the vet had diagnosed a dose too big for such a young and tiny puppy and it had basically destroyed his little gut. My vet then prescribed him with some tummy meds, pro biotics and a diet of white rice with a little chicken. That evening and $130 later the little guy was back to playing with his big sister and keeping food and water down. To sum this experience up, Dear Lacey Animal Clinic, I am very unhappy with the service that you gave me both at the vet clinic and after. Calling my boyfriend and telling him that, "you were very concerned that we wouldn't book a follow up appointment with you because you know how these things can be forgotten" is ridiculous. I don't know how you treat your own family pets but I know that my dogs are my children and I can assure you that his secondary appointment had already been made with our regular vet. You did however already know that as I let you know upon leaving your facility the day of the appointment, as well as my boyfriend continued to let you know on the phone. The badgering you gave him was unnecessary, but that is neither here nor there. The horrible customer service both he and I received as well as the mistreatment of my puppy and uncleanliness of your clinic is extremely disappointing. Anyone reading this review I would strongly suggest that you check out the Hawks Prairie Veterinary Hospital or their sister vet South Bay Vet. Both have a fabulous, friendly, knowledgable and professional staff with beautiful clean facilities. You will not be disappointed.
Worst vet I have ever been to. Took my little dog in because his ears were hurting, after waiting over a half hour past my appointment, the vet comes in, looks in his ears and and decides he needs to be sedated (for an additional $75) so she can see if he has a weed or something in his ear, she immediatley ruled out ear infection, without doing any kind of test. Long story short and $136 later I took my dog home where he spent the rest of the weekend in pain. Took him to another vet where she swabbed his ear, looked at it under a microscope, took pictures of his inner ear and found a very bad ear infection. $139 later my dog had medication for his infection . In my opinion that vet was lazy and was out to bilk me out of my money. I felt like I had just been robbed when I left there. Not to worry I am on SS..........just won't buy groceries for the rest of the month. If you decide to visit this clinic hang on to your wallet!
The people who work at this establishment are very nice and the main reason why I have gone to this vet. That is where the service ends. The past two times we have had appointments they have been extremely late. I would be fine with this if their staff would have come to me and tell me why they are late or there is an emergency. No they will have you sit 30 + min in a tiny exam room wondering if they are ever going to come. Our last experience with this vet was the last one we will ever have with them. Our dog went in for teeth cleaning and possible 4-5 extractions. When we called to see how he was and what the billing was we were informed that they pulled 23 teeth. I received no phone call for the authorization to pull these extra teeth which they were supposed to do. I know they would have needed to pulled any ways but the fact of the matter was they pulled 23 teeth without my permission. I will not be going back to this vet.
Very nice people with a professional facility. Basic visit starts at $49 plus treatment costs. Our cat got two meds and a cone of shame and the total was $140.
