Avoid this pet sitter!! Despite claims on her website and from her personally that she does not accept aggressive dogs, she keeps at least two unpredictable and aggressive dogs in her long-term boarding care and these dogs attacked and seriously injured my dog while in her care! She is untrustworthy and unprofessional. She has not called to check on my dog's welfare nor responded to my messages with my report of the extent of his injuries. I'm very unhappy with and angry about my experience with this pet care provider. I left my Sheltie overnight for one night, based on a recommendation from an acquaintance. Within 5 minutes of being in the home, he was attacked by another dog stationed on a pet bed right near the entrance way. There was no way for him to enter the home without passing by this dog, who lunged off the pet bed completely unprovoked and unexpectedly and who was followed into the attack by her "sibling" dog from the same home. After the attack, the owner of this business, Karry, stated to me, "Oh, I should have warned you about that dog, she's 'broken' and is on anti-anxiety medication but she still sometimes goes off unpredictably on other dogs." After the attack, when the two sibling dogs had returned to their pet beds, the second dog continued to growl aggressively. The website for this provider states that she only accepts non-aggressive dogs. Had I known that she actually does accept aggressive and maladjusted dogs, I would NEVER have taken my Sheltie to her home for care. I put my dog in her care based on the assurance that she only accepts non-aggressive dogs, so I immediately felt lied to after she explained about the dog who attacked my dog. Unfortunately, because I was visiting from out of town and had an obligation to which I could not bring my dog, I had no choice but to still leave my dog with her overnight. Karry assured me she would monitor interactions between my dog and other dogs, however she later admitted that she monitored them only periodically during outside playtime. When I picked my dog up the next day, Karry showed me the puncture bite wound she had found on my dog's left side from the incident when I dropped him off. However, when I looked him over later I found an additional larger wound on his OTHER side. When I called to tell her about finding the second wound, her "apology" was defensive and unprofessional and she could not provide me with an explanation as to how that wound occurred. I took my dog to the vet who ended up identifying FOUR separate large wound areas and a total of at least EIGHT puncture wounds. I have no idea how many times he actually ended up being attacked while in this pet sitter's care. In addition to the above, she didn't tell me until I arrived for the drop-off that she uses shock mats in her home to keep the dogs out of certain rooms. I would not have brought my dog to her with that knowledge, either. Also, when I called before my visit and asked screening questions, she assured me she is familiar with Sheltie personalities. However, when I arrived and she took his leash, she immediately tried to PULL him into her home, which caused him to do the typical Sheltie move of pulling back against her (they are masters at pulling back and wiggling straight out of their collars), and she didn't stop until I took the leash back from her and coaxed him into the house myself. This made me highly doubtful about her understanding of dealing with Shelties or other sensitive breeds. I would never recommend this pet care provider to anyone. I now have an injured and traumatized dog and a vet bill on my hands and the guilt of having exposed him to this. She has not called to check on my dog's welfare nor responded to the messages I sent her with photographs and a report of the extent of his injuries.
While the owner seemed to know a great deal about training and stuff, and the dogs are well socialized, I was concerned by the fact that the owner uses training collars, bark collars, and shock pads to "train" and keep dogs behaving a certain way. While my dog is still really young (only 15 weeks old) and doesn't bark too much I did not like the fact that shock pads were placed to keep the dogs out of the kitchen or other areas. I called other kennels and boarding places in Oak Harbor and found that nobody else uses these methods. I am highly upset that they would use these methods without consulting with the dog's owners beforehand. The owner also insisted on feeding my dog lunch (which is not how the vet told us to feed her... only twice a day) and with HER food, not my dog's food. My dog has skin allergies and I am hoping against all hope that she is ok from it. Yes, she came home exhausted but we will not be back to that place. Read the other reviews... they say about the same thing here.
My puppy was here for 2 weeks based on a recommendation, he lost 15 lbs and got very sick. He had been throwing up and they didn't even know. When I picked him up they tried to blame it on me letting him get worms (which he did NOT have). He is healthy again now and I will never go back!!! Don't waste your money, taking your dog here is like tying them up on the side of the road and just leaving them.
We have been bringing our lab/golden retriever mix to All Critter for the past two years. I feel that it is the best choice in Oak Harbor considering that the dogs are able to run and play and be in a natural pack environment. Our dog thrives in that atmosphere as opposed to being in a chain link/concrete kennel for days on ends with only sporatic interaction with humans and barking through the fence at the other dogs. I'm sure All Critter isn't the best choice for all people or dogs but it is a wonderful fit for our family. The owner cares for animals and it shows.
I had a family emergency out of state a few months ago and so I decided to leave my 1 yr old black lab with A.C.P.C. for a week. I knew that leaving my dog in a shelter-like kennel where they are kept enclosed in cages would cause a lot of anxiety for my high energy lab. She is used to being taken on daily walks and likes to run around & play. When I dropped off my dog, the owner didn't seem very patient with my dog right off the bat (my dog is very excitable and energetic when it comes to meeting new ppl & new areas) . She also seemed agitated with the other dogs in the house that became excited when my dog was introduced into the mix. I left for the airport feeling uneasy about that as well as learning that despite the 'freedom' the dogs get out in the property, they're not constantly supervised. They let the dogs out on the fenced property and every once in a while they can "look out the window" to check on them. 5 days later when I picked up my dog, the owners seemed like they couldn't give me back my dog fast enough. I got a huge sense that they were fed up with her & her energy. Also, when they opened the back door to let my dog in the house another dog managed to get inside as well. The owner's husband , I'm assuming, angrily tried to grab the dog to put him outside and called him "stupid". Maybe I'm just being sensitive, but I do not appreciate hearing someone whose JOB it is to work with animals calling them 'stupid' or have little patience for them. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but still...Also, to my surprise, my dog didn't even have her collar on. After putting on her collar, paying for boarding, and hearing the owners tell me that they could train my dog for $350 (which I could pay in "installments" *rolls eyes*), I left and will not be returning. Sure, I love the idea of a dog boarding place that lets pets play and roam together, but at least have constant supervision over them . Why run a business that deals with animals if you don't have the patience to do so. Having good customer service helps , too.. The owner's attitude was something I could do without.
