I have been looking for a new veterinarian for a while since moving. I was extremely happy with the one that I had before but have since moved to Spokane Valley from the Tri-Cities. As I searched the internet for different veterinarians in Spokane Valley, a few things caught my attention about Spokane Valley Animal Hospital. The first thing I love about SVAH is the hours. How many veterinarians are open until 9pm during the week and open on Saturday AND Sunday!? None that I know of. The second thing that drew me in was the fact that you get two free vaccinations with the exam, which I was needing to do anyway. I made an appointment for one of my dogs (a miniature schnauzer) because she got kennel cough. The staff was really friendly and they genuinely care about the animals they see. They did a thorough exam and let us know that we had caught it really early, we got some antibiotics for her and we were done. Since she was starting antibiotics, they were unable to give the vaccines but I scheduled a follow-up appointment for two weeks later. At the follow up, the vet determined that her kennel cough was completely gone and she was healthy enough for her two vaccines. The follow up appointment cost nothing and the first appointments cost was minimal (just the office visit of $55 and the cost of the antibiotics). About a week or so later, I noticed that my other dog (a pug) was having trouble peeing. I took her in to the vet and it was determined that she has too much protein in her diet (and therefore, has a lot of protein in her urine, which is creating crystals). She was given a prescription for antibiotics. That visit was also a minimal fee (again, the $55 office visit since it was a new dog, $39 for the urine test and the cost of the antibiotics). She was also put on a special diet (Science Diet C/D formula). Her follow up appointment is tomorrow. The follow up appointment is going to cost $39 and that is only because they need to do another urine test to make sure her urine does not have crystals anymore. As long as she is doing better and doesn't need anymore antibiotics, she will receive her vaccines tomorrow. Every time, we have seen Dr. Monica McGraw and she is clearly passionate about the animals that she works with. This is the best experience I have had at a veterinary office. They're amazing!

I was at first excited about this new hospital. I took my 10 yo cat in for an abdominal mass and saw Dr Fricke. I wanted an x-ray to see what was wrong and what this mass was. he refused to do one and opted for a blood test instead. His pancreas and liver were elevated and he blew off the mass as a skin lump. He advised that diabetes showed up so that was going to be our focus now. We were transferred care over to Dr B. (Bloom?) and she was extremely nice, knowledgable, and great bedside manner. We tried for 5 months to get his diabetes under control and is wasnt happening. One weekend he lost control of his bladder and couldnt walk. I called on a weekend asking for an appointment and was told they dont do appointments on the weekend, it is ER only and therefore twice the price. I am on an extremely limited budget and just didnt have the money. The person on the phone was not very compassionate towards my situation in regards to something else I could do to make him comfortable until i could get him in. I decided to call Legacy in Liberty lakes where I get his diabetic food and was told to come straight in, their fees are same every day they are open and to please come right in.The doctor called for my cat's records and after reviewing them before we got there, decided he needed an immediate ultrasound of his abdomen. We were referred to a facility in Post Falls that took great care of him and immediately found masses and other images that should not be on the pancreas of a cat. Longer story short, my cat was laid to rest today from being in pain for 5 months, hiding, laying with paws underneath him, not eating much, drinking, loss of bladder control, and just angry when he was touched, etc.. We found out he had either pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis or necrotizing something where the lining was being eaten up. All the signs were there from the labs he had done at SVAH, but something that could have been caught and cared for when we had our full time jobs, was blown off. I am extrmely disappointed in Dr Fricke and hopes remembers his bedside manner and job. LISTEN to the patients caretakers and follow through when they tell you their baby of 10 years is sick. The diabetes was a direct result of the pancreas issues and why it could not be controlled. In fairness, Dr B found out that no xray was ever done by Dr Fricke and said to call in with an immediate appointment for one. She believed that issue had been addressed already. Not saying my furbaby could have been saved either way, but intervention when I tried to explain something was wrong and afforded would have made a difference in my eyes and heart. He was so bad off on the images that opening him up would not have done anything but made him more uncomfortable upon healing with the diabetes to deal with as well. I am so angry with Dr Fricke for being in such a hurry to walk away to another office that he didnt take my concerns to heart and blew me off. I was there with two cats that were sick and he walked out without checking my second one over. He had to be called back in to examen my female cat. I should have followed my instincts and walked out then. Also, my cat was the biggest lover you could ever meet on an animal. His last stay for glucose testing and observation, he came back a different cat. He was hissing and swatting and spraying and trying to attack the staff. Did something happen to him while he was there that changed him? I was told that it is possible that he started to prgress so much quicker that it was coincidental and he was in serious pain and had enough being touched where he hurt. I dont know, but I would not recommend here any longer. I feel bad though because Dr Bloom?? was such a sweet and caring doctor and I only wish I had her fromt he beginning instead of Dr Fricke-he seriously disappointed me and I will tell whoever I can not to use him.

I love Dr. Fricke's knowledge and gentle loving care of the Exotic Pets: Small Fancy Pet Rats. He saved Mary Shield # 1's life quite a few yrs ago, when no one else would. I am entirely indebted to return the favor to him 10 fold and I would like to offer my services in the next 2-4 yrs as a Vet Tech Assistant to repay him for doing saving my Mary's life. The reception staff is easy and nice to talk with. The part of this vet clinics goal or motto key word is "Passion" and I can see it very well in all whom work there. I like the fact that they have a very affordable alternative for keeping Balto's Bordettella vaccine boosters UTD with out them having to administer it to him. You guys keep it affordable and I will keep coming back every time Balto needs one. Your are GREAT!!

3 years ago I found a lump in my cat's front arm pit. The caring and expert staff took us through the process of discovering that the lump was a very rare tumor in a thorough, caring, compassionate way. They surgically removed as much of the tumor as they could, being that it was in her arm pit and had wound itself around arteries and ligaments. When they couldn't get out all of the tumor, the expert, thorough staff at SVAH referred me to the WSU Teaching Hospital for radiation/chemo. My cat has been cancer free since that time and was NEVER traumatized by the care at SVAH or WSU. Thank you Dr. Codr for your compassion and expertise during this difficult situation. Thanks to you, Jete is a happy and healthy cat
