It really is all about the money. I went in for a $25 rabies shot and walked out paying $100! When I called I specifically said that I ONLY wanted the shot, nothing else, as my kitten had had a full wellness exam less than two months before. During her appointment she was weighed and had her temp taken...when I went to pay they charged me $75 for that and called it a wellness exam!! It's not about your pet or what you specifically asked for, it's about what they can do to get you to pay more money. They hound you to get every extra test they can, and then made me feel like a bad pet owner for not paying to get these tests done. Although the staff was friendly enough, I will never be coming back here again.
The staff are extremely nice and helpful. The prices are a little expensive, but not outside the normal range for veterinary care.
We recently put down our 8-year old cat, after watching his health decline over several months. We had brought him in throughout that time for care, but in the end we chose to forgo some very expensive diagnostic tests, that would have dictated which expensive treatment he would undergo. The vet was very caring, and helped ensure that we understood the options and helped us walk through them based upon cost/usefulness. They were also very understanding and supportive when we made the tough decision to put him down. We were never pressured to spend lots of money, and I believe that other reviewers believe they are somehow entitled to low-cost care -- the hospital is a business first, and they won't stay in business long if they give their services away.
If you are looking for a good place to take your animals in Spokane, I recommend the North Division Animal Medical Center. I have a cat that seemed to be having some abdominal problems. I was looking for a new place as the last place I went to was so expensive, plus they made me feel bad that I didn't get all their latest treatments and care plans. I actually called another place first that was recommended by a neighbor, but they didn't take walk-ins and were booked for a few days. That place recommended NDAMC. I called them about 7:45 AM and got an 11:00 appointment, but was also encouraged to come in at any time to see if we could get squeezed in. After I made the appointment, I read the reviews here and felt more than a little concerned. However, I decided to go ahead with the initial exam. Dr. Sipert and his technician Chrissy were awesome, as were the front desk staff. I felt like I was treated with respect and the prices were reasonable. They also didn't pressure me to have a bunch of tests taken, but offered quotes on things in priority order. I've been to other places here in Spokane and never felt completely comfortable as a pet owner and often faced sticker shock. When I found out that nothing was urgently wrong with my cat, I decided not to go forward with the tests and take her home for further observation, and my decision was respected. I purchased the flea treatment and got some recommendations for environmental pest treatments that I could buy over the counter. Finally, when I remarked about the good service on Facebook, one of my friends told me this is where she and her parents take their pets, as well as have them boarded. She also had nothing but good to say about this clinic. I'll be returning here whenever I need care for my cats.
Very, very expensive, never walk out without spending $150+. Always saying that this test and that test is very important for the animals well being, and making you feel bad if you reject the test. It's not for wanting to spend money on my dog. Previous to this pet, we spent $1,500 on our 13 1/2 year old golden retriever/chow mix who had pancreatitis and was diabetic for 3 years. But that was in a differents state and for something that was a real diagnosis. Come on, let's remember that in this economy we are all doing the best we can for our families, including our furry friends. I feel these vets are all about the $$$, not the animals. Looking for a different vet!!!!, can't believe that I have that I have taken my animals here for the last year and half since we moved here.
