I am surprised to read the negative reviews. I did have a negative experience but it had nothing to do with the staff or the care given, it was because I lost my cat unexpectedly in the middle of the night. I felt like the vet was extremely professional and very honest with me. I didn't feel like I was forced to agree to any tests and they were very upfront about the cost of everything. I did agree to an x-ray because I think I needed to see that my little guy was in fact in heart failure to give me some piece of mind. The techs and vet were very gentle with my cat and very sympathetic to me. When it was time to put him down they made it very peaceful and gave me all the time I needed with him. This was not something I was ready to do but I was very glad this facility was there when they were so my cat didn't have to suffer.

I brought my cat in because he injured his leg/foot in the garage. His foot was clearly swollen. I brought him to FVRC, the Tech had an attitude. She clearly didn't like cats. She never smiled once. She had scratches on her arm from a Siamese cat earlier that day. She said, she didn't need anymore scratches. Then Dr. Samantha Vandehey comes in 35 minutes later, to examine my Maine coon, she says she has never seen a Cat flinch when she pressed along the spine. (REALLY?) I am not a Vet but I certainly have! she stated "not in that particular spot" We better xray the spine. I was charged for two xrays, but the vet showed me only one. I asked about the other xray Dr. vandehey shows me the same exact one. She never x-rayed my cats foot. (which was the reason I brought him in) I paid $350.00 to two xrays,(only one was taken) and some pain meds, anti-inflammatory. She then insinuates that he may have a blood clot on his spine which could be caused by FIP- She suggests I should consider testing him for that. (fatal feline disease) I have had cats that were tested for coronavirus when they had a sudden fever, Lethargic, never for a damned limp. (I told her the cat was injured in the garage). I guess she thought I was an idiot, and I was going to spend for a $2,000.00 CT, blood work and a bunch of unnecessary tests. She made one last attempt to scare me, in to having those tests performed, which didn't work, so we were discharged. The same tech who had an attitude when we arrived, is now going to read my discharge papers, I know kids that read better than her. She couldn't pronounce words, medications. I sat there helping her read our discharge instuctions. It was going on 1am and we were still on page 1 of 3! I told her I don't mean to be rude, but I really have to go. Beware, this is an emergency room, the Veterinarian's will prey on your emotions, to try to get you to run tests that are prob unecessary. I talked with a woman who was crying, because her dog was in surgery, and she said the surgery would cost 3,000.00 Three days after the visit, my cat is fine. He never stopped eating, drinking or using the litter box. He was a little inactive because of pain. Last night he was running around again without a limp!

I had taken a 12 year old siamese/tabby mixed breed cat into their about 9 pm on a Wednesday. While the place was fairly non-busy, it took roughly 30 minutes before I could see a vet. At which point the vet says she looked at my pet, and that they don't know what is wrong but that to determine "anything" I'd have to run about 17 tests which totaled $1900, mind you this is just diagnostic, that's not even the treatment. The poor cat's symptoms were lethargy, and had vomited blood several times earlier in the day. Since this cat was usually "very" social and a cuddler, I had known something wasn't right. While, I couldn't quite afford a full $2000 for diagnostics, I instead opted for just an ultrasound to start with, because I had suspected a type of tumor for some time. So, they "supposedly" did an ultrasound on my poor pet, and came in to tell me he had a golf ball sized tumor impacting his stomach that appeared attached to the liver. What I didn't understand at the time though, is how did they do an ultrasound without shaving any fur? OK, so let's assume they did perform an ultrasound and that there was a tumor that was likely inoperable. I had made the humane decision to put my elderly cat down graciously. So while they leave me in a waiting room to say "goodbyes" to my cat of 13 years, a secretary comes in and says that I need to pay for the services before they can continue with the euthanasia? So here I am, nigh hysterical with grief and petting/hugging/kissing my terminally ill cat, and they have the audacity to come in and demand money before they performed any other work? This could not have waited until their services were complete? I was still inside there waiting area room, surely they knew I wasn't going anywhere. I was very disturbed that they came in and demanded payment immediately while I was grieving over my terminally ill pet. Compared to what other reviewers have written, I got away kind of cheap at $350. Although, the lack of compassion was disheartening. Clearly greed above all else is this vet's 'modus operandi' I don't know that I would ever take a pet there, even in an emergency. Or at a minimum I would go to ANY other veterinarian I could find that would perform after hour services, surely there are more vets in Green Bay with all night services? At any rate... Buyer BEWARE! There isn't this much dishonesty in perhaps only one other industry, and that's funeral services. Which coincidentally is what you usually end up needing with this veterinarian.

I am absolutely disgusted with the service we received at the Animal Referral Center. My miniature dachshund slipped a disc in her back and lost function in her hind legs a little over a month ago. My vet referred me to the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center, where they did NOTHING for me except try to get me to spend $5,000 on a surgery that is not guaranteed to fix my dog. I asked them if there are any alternatives to the surgery and the doctor told me "No, she will not get better unless she gets the surgery". As the vet was saying this to me, my sister(who was in the room with me at the time) was reading an article about acupuncture and chiropractic services for dogs. This magazine was offered in the exam room we were sitting in, by the center, and the story even featured a miniature dachshund who used the alternative services. Seeing as how the vet was of NO help to us in finding alternative options for my dog, we just paid our $180 bill after listening to them threaten us that my dog will not get better unless we slice her open. I went home, cried (a lot) and one of my friends helped me research other options. We came across Naturally Balanced Veterinary Services that works out of Menasha and Green Bay. I called to schedule an appointment to see Dr. Patty for two days later. In addition, we found out about Cold Laser Therapy which is offered at a clinic in the town where I live (Manitowoc). We have currently done 6 treatments of cold laser therapy and have seen Dr. Patty twice, (both times she performed both an adjustment and an acupuncture treatment on my dog) and My dog is now walking again, and we expect a FULL recovery. Not only do I feel GREAT about not slicing my dogs back open through this clinic, but after we complete her third chiropractic/acupuncture apt next week and three more follow up treatments of cold laser(1/month), I will have spent $961 to treat her slipped disc and get her walking again (this includes the wasted $180 spent at this clinic). I would say that these people are LIARS and only care about the money rather than the actual welfare of the animals they treat. To anyone that is struggling with an animal with a slipped disc in their back, surgery is NOT your only option. Look for other non-invasive practices such as: cold laser therapy, chiropractic care, and acupuncture. Even if it doesn't work, chances are that the surgery wouldn't have helped either, and you just saved yourself THOUSANDS of dollars. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
