I'm more than dissatisfied with the way my animal's emergency was treated here. My dog had diarrhea and vomiting for 24 hours, so I was in a state of panic and quite vulnerable. I was unsure what was wrong with him so after waiting it out I finally decided to rush him to the ER at 3 AM. They yanked me in and charged me $110 just to see my dog. After they seen my dog they informed me that they can't do anything without further tests, which costs much more money. So I agreed to further tests to do X-Rays to determine if my dog had ate something. 2 Minutes later they rush out and I sign a bunch of paper work and yet again pay another $130. A few minutes go by and then the Doctor brings out the X-Rays. She is trying to convince me that my dog has something lodged in his stomach and that he needs a very invasive surgery to remove it. At this point I'm panicked and I go from thinking my dog has a stomach virus to thinking my dog is on the brink of death. The Doctor kept insisting my dog was in immediate danger and was on the edge and at the same time I'm still somewhat skeptical because he seems completely fine except for the diarrhea and vomiting. I didn't see anything in the X-Ray yet she says she sees it, go figure. Well, the doctor then insists we ran another test where they would give my dog a fluid that would show in X-Ray to see if the dog's stomach was actually clogged. This would've costed another $300 dollars but then they decided that it was getting too late and just kind of rushed me out there since that test would take a couple hours and they didn't want to be held over after work. So at this point I'm led to believe that my dog is about to die yet they don't want to be held over to run a test to confirm he actually has a problem before they go in and slice him open and charge me $1,500 as well. None the less I decide to leave and visit my local vet (All About Animals) instead in a few hours for a second opinion. I drop the X-Rays off at my local vet and guess what? They don't believe he has anything lodged in his stomach at all. They run some blood work and come to find out he just simply has a stomach virus that can be treated with antibiotics. I'm just very happy that I now know that my dog isn't dying and that he will make a complete recovery. If I would've stayed at the ER Vet in Kenova then my little guy would've ended up getting his stomach completely split open all for nothing and screw me out of $1,500 at the same time. At this point I'm honestly appalled at the way the whole situation was handled. I was being preyed on by this crooked clinic and they played my emotions in order to extort money out of me. They never even performed blood work and that was the first thing the actual reputable vet did. The reason they didn't do blood work I assume is because it wouldn't have netted them the same amount of money that their useless tests did. Please beware of this place. Come to find out that actually most of the vet clinics in the area all have a "share" and "part ownership" of this place. I'm very happy that my local vet (All About Animals) has no affiliation with this place. If you love your animals, please don't take them to Tri-State Animal ER. Their business tactics are far from deceitful and I honestly don't know how they even sleep at night.
